          Inclining drum Microscope, French c.1850

          This microscope is 8-inches in height as shown inclined in the photos. It is constructed of brass with a green painted iron base. Focusing is by rack and pinion. The lowest knob locks the orientation of the concave mirror and the upper knob locks the overall inclination of the microscope. It comes supplied with an eyepiece, a button objective, a stage forceps, and a tube-mounted stage condenser.

          An identical example located in the Harvard collection is dated c. 1850. Another example is known with an importer's label in the case marked Abraham, Liverpool; this label is consistent with a mid 19th century date of manufacture,
